Time for Reflection

1) We have covered a lot of ground so far in this class. Out of all of the concepts we've covered, what has been the most difficult for you to grasp? What has been the easiest? Why?

2) What strategies have helped you keep up with the material in this fast-moving course? Is there anything you do inside or outside of class that helps you?

3) This course will continue to move at a quick pace. What are some good strategies that are already being used in class to help you understand the material? What improvements could be made in class to better help you understand the material?

  1. 1) The hardest concept for me to understand was using charts in chapter 3. I had a hard time figuring out what to put where and how. The easiest was probably factoring because it was so straight forward and simple, for me at least. It's not because it was the most recent lesson, but it's also because I've had some experience with doing those before.
    2) I pay attention during class as much as I can and I always review. Which isn't a very hard thing to do considering the fact that Mr. Jobe helps us to all the time. I also felt that all of these connected with each other, so that it wasn't too hard to understand even though it was fast paced. I actually go to a math hagwon, so if I need help sometimes outside of class for homework, I can ask the teachers there or Mr. Jobe.
    3) Practice and review is key. Algebra is something where I think you can't move on until you figure the previous lesson or strategy out. I like how we're having a lot more worksheet because it'll help us to improve. I don't think there are any specific improvements because I think this class is perfect as it is!!! (:

  2. 1. The most difficult one was the factoring trinomial and finding the distance, rate and time. It was difficult to me because it was confusing and I didn’t understand that well. I understand the trinomial know but the finding distance, rate and time are still difficult. The easiest on was factoring binomials and polynomial because I just need to factor it.
    2. I solve some problems when we had fast moving course and I sometimes asked my tutor how to do thing.
    3. I think for understanding the materials I need to review what I learn and solve many problems to understand how do I solve. I could listen what teacher said and note taking important thing.

  3. 1) The hardest concept for me to understand was transforming formulas because it was hard working without integers and sometimes it got really confusing. The easiest concept for me to understand was the basic equations we did in the beginning of the year because it was the same stuff we learnt in Pre-Algebra and I had a lot of practice doing it previously.
    2) Paying attention in class and doing Chapter Reviews before a test or quiz really helps me keep up with the course. There is a lot of stuff that Mr. Jobe teaches us in class that might not necessarily be in the textbook so it is really, really, really important for me to pay attention, plus he explains some problems that I might have had trouble with the night before. The Chapter Reviews in the textbook are helpful because basically everything that is in there is on the test so based on how much I can do, I have a basic idea of how prepared I am for the test.
    3) Paying attention and asking questions is a really, really, really, really, really important in this class because although I might not understand something in the beginning but if I ask Mr. Jobe do explain it again or help me on a classwork problem, I begin to understand it. Asking questions makes things less confusing because Mr. Jobe will explain it step by step. I really don’t think there are any improvements that can be made because I personally don’t think that there are any problems.

  4. 1) The hardest concept so far was properties. I think that this was hard mainly because I had never learnt them before and there was a lot to remember. The easiest concept so far me was Rate-Time-Distance problems in chapter 4. I think that this was easy for me because I have had a lot of experience doing it before and it was very straight forward.
    2) I try to pay attention in class as much as I can when Mr. Jobe is explaining so that I don’t have have to review things as much later. If I am stuck on a homework question or even a classwork question I always ask Mr. Jobe about it which is very useful.
    3) I think that paying attention when Mr. Jobe is explaining the concepts is one of the most important ways to help us understand the material because I think that when a teacher explains something it is much more clear than if you read it out of a book. Another good strategy would be to practice some of the questions that we do in class and understand why we got certain questions wrong.

  5. 1. The most difficult concept for me was factoring. This is because factoring was the only lesson that was totally ‘new’ to me. Every other lesson I had experience with, such as making a table, setting up an equation etc. Factoring was the only part of maths so far that I had absolutely no idea what to do, and why.
    2. Because we move on and learn new lessons in Maths very quickly, I try to concentrate all the time so that I don’t miss anything important. Also, I try to do all the bonus problems Mr. Jobe gives us because I think it is a good way to improve your maths skills and earn extra credit. The most useful strategy for me seems to be doing my homework on time and following the directions. This is because Mr. Jobe gives us the right amount of homework, so as long as I do it, I rarely have trouble keeping up with what we are learning.
    3. Some strategies that are used in class that help me understand is that the class is always open for questions. After we check our homework, there is always a time for us to ask Mr. Jobe to solve a question so that we can understand what we did wrong when we were doing our homework. Also, Mr. Jobe uploads important keynotes with helpful information on the wiki so that we can review it before quizzes and tests. This really helps me if I am just completely confused. I think Mr. Jobe could give us some more extra optional pizzaz worksheets (before tests and quizzes) because I know if I a question wrong, so it is sometimes more convenient than the textbook and helps when I am reviewing.

  6. Out of all the things we have covered in class, making charts by looking at word problems was the hardest for me to understand. This was because I had to decide what to name the tabs in the graphs, where to put the numbers, and make that into an equation. The easiest was the properties, because all I had to do was memorize the functions of each one, and apply it to an equation.
Strategies such as worksheets, games, and competitions we often have in class helped me follow along with the fast-moving course. This was because I got a chance to apply what I have learned to the games we played. I have a math tutor who helps me, so when I have questions or something I do not understand too well, I can ask her.
Good strategies already being used in class that help me understand the material is practicing, and playing games with what I have learned. Usually, Mr. Jobe assigns classwork from the textbook, so I can see what the homework will be like. When we do this in class, I can always ask questions when needed. When we play games, I can apply my knowledge, so I can see how much I know of the chapter. To improve the class, we should play more GAMES. :D

  7. 1. Out of all the concepts that we have done, chapter three was the hardest for me to understand. There were lots of different kind of word problems that confused me. Also, it was hard to complete the chart. The easiest concept for me to understand was factoring. Out of all the chapters that we have done, factoring was the one that I felt confident about and I have experienced with it before.
    2. I try to concentrate every time when we learn a new lesson. When I have questions that I don't know Mr.Jobe always help us to understand the problem. Before the test or quiz, I go over the homework again and solve the questions that I had some difficulty with.
    3. Some good strategies that are very helpful would be the worksheet that Mr.Jobe gives us. This worksheet is a good example of reviewing the chapter and study before the test. I don't think there are improvements that can be made!

  8. 1) We have covered a lot of ground so far in this class. Out of all of the concepts we've covered, what has been the most difficult for you to grasp? What has been the easiest? Why?
Factoring had been the most difficult concept for me because it was so confusing. You had to solve without knowing any of the numbers or variables, which made the question hard to guess the final answer. Rate Time Distance problems with charts had been the easiest concept because I already knew what to do and there were a lot of hints in word problem.
    2) What strategies have helped you keep up with the material in this fast-moving course? Is there anything you do inside or outside of class that helps you?
I try to concentrate in class and solve as many problems I can, so if I find out that I don’t know some kind of concepts I could ask Mr Jobe. I also take notes about how some concepts work, which is very useful when I go back my notes before the test. I could always review my math all the time.
    3) This course will continue to move at a quick pace. What are some good strategies that are already being used in class to help you understand the material? What improvements could be made in class to better help you understand the material?
I think understanding the review questions is really helpful because most of the questions in the quiz come out like the review we had done. Also homework helps me understand well because we practice the same concept over and over again. Which helps me remember.

  9. 1) We have covered a lot of ground so far in this class. Out of all of the concepts we've covered, what has been the most difficult for you to grasp? What has been the easiest? Why?
Distance problems have been the most difficult for me cause it was complicated problems(especially complicated word problems) and the easiest for me was the properties cause it wasn’t that hard to remember and some were similar so it was easier to remember it.

What strategies have helped you keep up with the material in this fast-moving course? Is there anything you do inside or outside of class that helps you?
Sometimes, I review during advisory and at home and homework that we do in class was quite helpful since it’s like a review of what we did in class , but I don’t do anything outside of the class.

This course will continue to move at a quick pace. What are some good strategies that are already being used in class to help you understand the material? What improvements could be made in class to better help you understand the material?
I think understanding materials can be helpful cause that is what comes out in the test and quiz and I think if Mr.Jobe gives us a specific page(pages) in the book to review then it might be better, but other than that I don’t think there should be any improvements.

  10. The hardest concept for me was memorizing all those "properties" in Chapter 3. I had to remember the meanings of combinations of words I don’t understand although I understand them individually, word for word. The easiest concept was dealing with charts in Chapter 3. It made it pretty much easier for me to organize and solve complicated multiplication and division problems, only if I knew how to arrange the facts in a correct spot.

Fortunately, I’ve already known some points about most of the courses, so I didn’t had a hard time catching up, nor understanding new things based on the ones I already know. However, by an order of my mom, I am solving problems from the very first page of the math book and is trying hard to memorize all the knowledge I’ve got.

I like the way Mr. Jobe let us do the classwork by ourselves and not telling us the answer until we get an answer. Well, it’s kind of obvious, but I personally think that this is perfect for the students to understand the concept quickly and applying it into their solution. In my case, as I think and struggles to get the answer, I get to better understand what I’ve just learned. The only thing I want is decreasing the amount of HOMEWORK!!

  11. 1) We have covered a lot of ground so far in this class. Out of all of the concepts we've covered, what has been the most difficult for you to grasp? What has been the easiest? Why?
The hardest concept so far in class was factoring. Factoring was confusing for me not only because I missed a lot of the classes on it and but also because it was hard to decipher the different methods to factor for different situations. The easiest section was the Rate Time Distance charts and equations. This is because once you understood how to solve the problem, the method was the same for almost every question, making it a lot easier.

    2) What strategies have helped you keep up with the material in this fast-moving course? Is there anything you do inside or outside of class that helps you?
I always review the lessons we did by looking at the homework. A lot of the test questions come from the homework too, so it helps to look over it after class at home or before tests.

    3) This course will continue to move at a quick pace. What are some good strategies that are already being used in class to help you understand the material? What improvements could be made in class to better help you understand the material?

I like the way the class is really independent compared to any other classes I've had. It helps to have time to look over and think about the materials that we just went over in class, and this helps with the fast pace class as well. I don't believe any other improvements can be made since the class is very effective currently.
