Mr. Jobe, Mr. Forrestal, and Ms. Lee are the three Unicorn Keepers at Fairy Land.
In order to become the Ultimate Super Mega Awesome Head Unicorn Keeper, Mr. Jobe has to find out how many unicorns he has in Ranch 1. Mr. Jobe knows that :
He has 5 times more unicorns as Mr. Forrestal in Ranch 1.
Ms. Lee has one less unicorn than the amount of Mr. Forrestal's unicorns in ranch 1 (Ms. Lee only has one ranch).
He has twice the amount of Ms. Lee's unicorns in Ranch 2.
And that if Mr. Jobe took away the amount of unicorns in (his) Ranch 2 from Ranch 1, he would have the same amount of unicorns as Mr. Forrestal's unicorns in total.

How many unicorns does Mr. Jobe have in Ranch 1?

  3. Most of the story makes sense except where does the +8 come in? But the story overall is really clear and easy to understand and it is really, really creative (and funny :D). I think all you need to do is to mention the +8 thing in your story.

  5. This word problem is the most creative one that I've seen so far! Unicorns and ranches are all very original concepts, so it makes the word problem enjoyable to read. Although the different ranch numbers were confusing in the beginning, I could figure it out after reading it over a few times. The "re-post" fixed the problem of 8 not being a part of the equation. Overall, this is an excellent word problem and I would've loved solving it during math class!

Does the story fit with the equation? Is it functional? Would you actually write this equation from this word story problem?
The word problem fits the equation and it is functional. I would be able to write this equation from the word problem.
Does it make sense, or is it a little confusing? Discuss what is not clear, and suggest improvements.
It was a little confusing so I had to read it couple of times to find out what it’s about, but I don’t think there are any mistakes.
Is the story creative? How could it be made better?
Story is very creative and don’t think I read a story word problem that was more creative than this. It might be better if they put other names instead of the teacher’s names, but it’s optional.
What are the positive points about the word problem?
Positive points about this word problem are that this word problem is very creative, funny and pretty exciting when solving it!!!

  7. Mr. Jobe, Mr. Forrestal, and Ms. Lee are the three Unicorn Keepers at Fairy Land.
In order to become the Ultimate Super Mega Awesome Head Unicorn Keeper, Mr. Jobe has to find out how many unicorns he has in his Ranch A. Each Unicorn Keeper have/has their own ranch(es). Mr. Jobe has two ranches, (Ranch A and Ranch B), Mr. Forrestal also has two ranches (Ranch A and Ranch B), and Ms. Lee has one ranch (Ranch A).
    Mr. Jobe knows that...
...He has 5 times more unicorns than there is in Mr. Forrestal’s Ranch A in his (Mr. Jobe’s) Ranch A.
...Ms. Lee has one less unicorn in her ranch than the amount of Mr. Forrestal's unicorns in Ranch A.
...He has twice the amount of Ms. Lee's unicorns in Ranch B.
...Mr. Forrestal has 8 unicorns in Ranch B.
...And that if he took away the amount of unicorns in (his) Ranch B from Ranch A, he would have the same amount of unicorns as Mr. Forrestal's unicorns in total.

How many unicorns does Mr. Jobe have in Ranch 1?
