Equation #4

6 comments:

  1. A B C are all siblings. A had 18 candies and B and C had 0. Because their mom and dad felt it was unfair that A only had candies, they each bought x amounts of candy. However, during the way back home A,B,C’s mom felt hungry so she ate one of the candies. Mom and Dad now divided the amount left, 2x-1, in to three parts for the three siblings to share. If the initial amount of candies A had, 18, is 5 more than the amount he received from his parents, then what is the value of x?

  2. The story is clear and fits the equation, however the last sentence is a little bit confusing when it says A was 18. I would have written it like after their parents shared out the candies each sibling got 5. Overall I think the story is very good and I would’ve written the same equation if I read the story.

The story fits the equation, I would be able to write the equation from this story problem. It is very easy to understand. The equation makes sense, because I was able to write the equation down on a sheet of paper according to the word problem- while having the equation covered. The explanation is clear, and easy to understand. To improve this word problem, Yena and Hwajung can make the words a little trickier, to make the problem more challenging. The story is rather simple, than creative. This could be made better, by adding names into ABC. It is easy to understand, and easy to solve. It is fun to read.

  5. Ryan, Mike and John are all siblings. Ryan had 18 candies and Mike and John had none. Because their mom and dad felt it was unfair that Ryan only had candies, they went to Walmart and each bought x amounts of candy. However, during the way back home mom felt hungry so she ate one of the candies. Mom and Dad now divided the amount left, 2x-1, in to three parts for the three siblings to share. If the initial amount of candies Ryan had, 18, is 5 more than the amount he received from his parents, then what is the value of x?
