Equation #2

7 comments:

  1. Bob was having a party and he invited two gangs, the 2nd graders and the Nerds (which Bob was part of). Five people from the 2nd graders decided they didn’t want to come and five people from the Nerds decided they weren’t going to come. They day before the party the rest of the 2nd graders said they weren’t coming because they got invited to another party so the next day at the party Bob was the only person there.

  2. The story doesn't fit the equation. You never mentioned how many people there are in each gang. So I can't write 8-y because the world problem doesn't mention that there were 8 2nd graders. It would be better if you mentioned how many members there were in each gang and say that from each gang, x members didn’t come. You also wrote “they day” instead of “the day”. The story is pretty creative and the names for the gangs are really funny.

The story is very creative, but the word problem does not really tell us what we should be looking for, or what the variable should be. Also, we don't get how the 8 and the 6 in the equation. Are there 8 people in the Nerds gang? We think you should clarify this because just by reading your word problem, we can't tell how many people there are. The story plot was funny, and I think you should use the same concept, just clarify a few things here and there so we can know what we're looking for!(:

  4. We think that the story doesn’t fit with the equation and it is also not functional. It doesn’t make sense because it doesn’t have questions to solve and it doesn’t have unknown variable. There are no grammatical mistakes. The story is creative but it would have been better if story matched its equation. The positive points about this question was that this question was interesting and unique.

  5. Bob was having a party and he invited two gangs, the first graders and the Nerds (which Bob was part of). The second graders had 8 people in their gang and the Nerds only had 6. Y amount of people from the first graders decided they didn’t want to come and Y amount of people from the Nerds decided they weren’t going to come. They day before the party the rest of the first graders said they weren’t coming because they got invited to another party. The next day at the party Bob was the only person there. What does Y represent?

Bob was having a party, and he invited two gangs, 6 of the second graders(Which Bob was part of) and 8 of the Nerds. The same amount of people from each group, which are represented by Y, decided that they would not come. The day before the party, all of the Nerds determined not to go to the party because they had to study for the coming math test. The next day at the party, Bob was the only person who was there. Now, how many does Y stand for?
